Black History Month - CTM

UofL student Leah Hazelwood presented to the mentees about black history month and feminism. She gave definitions and importances of both, and examples of black feminists. From Harriet Tubman, all the way to Beyonce. It was cool to see that the girls knew who most the people were. We took the girls to the other room and gave them their snack of pretzels. Leah wrote a poem that included powerful black women. Each of the girls got a page or two to illustrate. We are going to laminate the pages and make it into books to give to the mentees. The girls also completed a confidence evaluation. When they were finished with the questionnaire they received a valentine’s candy bag. The purpose of this theme was to educate girls on black history month and feminism.
