My Experience as a Mentor

By Christie Kremer

I joined She Became as a mentor in 2016 - I had no idea what great things were going to come from it. I did it for fun, to help out some young girls in my community, and to spend time with my friends. Over the past four years, She Became has proven to be more than a club, but rather an important stepping stone in my life. I have made connections with many people - mentors, mentees, professionals - who have all taught me important lessons and helped me become my best self.

The girls I have met at Fern Creek Elementary constantly remind me of the importance of this program. I have seen them grow in their confidence and their passions, and the best part is knowing that they truly understand the lessons we teach them. At such a young age, they already know what it means to be young women and how they can overcome any obstacles that society places in front of them. They have taught me more than I ever expected. I know I am one of their mentors, but they inspire me and act as role models in my life as well. Their excitement for life, their loud personalities, and their love for themselves and each other are just some of the admirable qualities that remind me every day of the importance of being a feminist.
