Help us shape the next generation of leaders!

She Became is a volunteer-powered nonprofit creating career-connected learning experiences for girls in elementary school, high school, and college. Through mentorship, career exploration, and leadership development, we expand what’s possible for girls at formative times in their lives.

We offer a variety of meaningful ways to get involved, whether you’re looking to speak, mentor, lead, or contribute behind the scenes. Volunteers of all backgrounds, identities, and experience levels are welcome.

If you believe in the power of mentorship, representation, and opportunity, there’s a place for you here!

Join Our Leadership Team

She Became is entirely volunteer-led; our leadership team consists of over 30 accomplished students and professionals representing 15+ diverse industries and fields of study. Each leader brings unique expertise and a shared passion for our mission, and together, they generously devote their time to drive our vision forward and enable our growth, programs, and partnerships.

  • Leadership Board Member (Ongoing commitment; time varies by role): Take ownership of a core area, such as Events, Communications, Fundraising, Spanish Programming, or Strategic Planning. Leadership Board members meet monthly and manage key initiatives that keep She Became running and growing. Leadership board members range from early to mid-career.

  • Advisory Board Member (Ongoing commitment; flexible involvement): Serve as a strategic thought partner, providing insight, expertise, and connections that help us scale. Advisory Board members contribute in a flexible, project-based capacity and help champion our mission across networks and sectors. Advisory Board members range from mid- to experienced-career.

Future Leaders Mentorship Program

Our flagship program introduces elementary school girls to real-world careers and leadership skills through themed sessions held in English and Spanish. Each meeting features hands-on activities, near-peer mentorship, and an opportunity to learn from women succeeding in their professions.

  • Guest Speaker (One-time commitment): Join us for a 30-minute session where you’ll bring your career to life. Share your story, lead a short activity, and help girls imagine their futures in fields they may not even know exist yet. When young people hear from professionals with a wide range of lived experiences, it broadens their sense of what’s possible. We aim to expand these girls' dreams of who they can become.

Teen Advisory Board (TAB)

Our Teen Advisory Board offers high school students a chance to grow as leaders while supporting She Became’s programming, events, and fundraising efforts. Some of the TAB members are also Future Leaders Mentors. We're looking for volunteers to help strengthen these students’ career readiness and confidence.

  • Career Mentor (Chicago, In Person)
    (~2 hours/month, September–May):
Meet one-on-one or in small groups with TAB members to provide guidance on careers, college, and life after high school. Whether you’re reviewing a resume, leading a job shadow, or just having a conversation, your insight matters.

  • Workshop Leader (One-time commitment): Facilitate a session on a real-world skill every young leader should have: public speaking, time management, interview prep, or goal-setting. Workshops are interactive and can be held virtually or in person.

Corporate & Community Engagement

We offer high-impact, purpose-driven volunteer experiences for companies, employee resource groups, schools, and community partners.

  • Coffee & Conversation Host (One-time commitment): Invite She Became to your office or organization for an inspiring 45-minute session. We’ll share our mission, impact, and how your team can get involved.

  • Group Volunteer Projects: We’ll tailor the opportunity to your team’s size, capacity, and interests and our priorities.

Seasonal Campaigns

Throughout the year, She Became leads community initiatives that directly support the girls and families we serve.

  • Holiday Toy Drive Ambassador (October–December): Help make the holidays brighter for our Future Leaders mentees and their classmates by organizing a toy drive at your workplace, school, or with your personal network. Volunteers can collect gifts, help wrap and sort items, or support deliveries. This initiative supports elementary students at our partner schools across Chicago.
