Finding Success is not a Straight Path

Guest Speaker Monica Negron Encourages Change

In Louisville, KY, our Future Leaders met Monica Negron, the Director of Belonging, Access, & Engagement at the University of Louisville. In her role, Monica leads campus initiatives that support student development, academic success, and inclusive leadership. She works in the business of helping young people discover their potential both inside and outside the classroom through community.

Monica’s heartfelt presentation was a powerful tool that showcased her resilience and growth. Her story originally started as a pursuit to become a doctor while studying biology, and ultimately finding her calling to work in leadership. Monica further explained how her trajectory shifted due to challenges she had no control over, including a medical diversion when she tore her ACL. While her plans shifted, her central goal of helping others never wavered. She stressed the importance of staying open to new opportunities and how life may have plans for you that you might not anticipate.

Monica’s story telling sparked optimism among the Future Leaders, highlighting thatsuccess doesn’t always follow a single straight path. The idea of trusting yourself while facing challenges resonated with the group.

Monica led a hands-on project to further inspire the girls to put the lesson into action. Tying in her love for sports, Monica had the girls personalize their own paper medals. The medals were showered with positive words of encouragement as a reminder to stay motivated while pursuing their life goals. As the Future Leaders wrapped up their time meeting Monica, they left with more self-belief and the confidence to handle challenges as an opportunity for growth.

She Became is incredibly grateful to Monica Negron for sharing her path to success with our Future Leaders in Louisville, KY. Everyone can benefit from learning to embrace change and turn it into success.
