Who We Are
Founded in 2016 and headquartered in Chicago, we are a nonprofit that is committed to empowering girls to embrace their potential and pursue their dreams. Through mentorship, career exploration, and leadership development, we connect girls with inspiring role models, equipping them with the confidence, skills, and support to turn their aspirations into reality. She Became is 100% free for all participants and entirely volunteer run.
Our Areas of Impact
Future Leaders Mentorship Program
She Became’s flagship school-based initiative is designed to empower elementary school girls by connecting them with high school mentors to serve as relatable role models. They are introduced to professional women across various industries who share their career journeys, demonstrating what’s possible with hard work & determination through career-centric activities. The program provides services in both English and Spanish across Illinois & Kentucky. In Chicago, we partner with Walter Payton College Prep High School and Ruben Salazar Bilingual Education Center.
Teen Advisory Board
Known as the TAB, the board empowers high school student leaders in the Chicago area with professional development opportunities and meaningful volunteer experiences. TAB members divide their time between hands-on nonprofit work – like event planning, fundraising, and volunteering – and developing their professional skills through leadership training and workshops.
Community Engagement
Through supply drives, community events, and Career Exploration Days, we create opportunities that provide essential resources, spark meaningful connections, and empower girls to dream big across communities.
